LAHORE: Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that reforms are being brought for the improvement of the health sector under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

“The Punjab government is committed to providing the best, quality and free treatment to the people. New projects for cancer, stroke and adult cardiac surgery are being brought,” he said, adding: “We want to run the Universal Health Insurance Programme under a sustainable model we want the common man to benefit as much as possible from this program.”

Chairing a meeting, Salman Rafique reviewed Universal Health Insurance, Adult Cardiac Surgery Programme, Stroke Programme and Cancer Programme. Various opinions and suggestions were presented by the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company. Khawaja Salman Rafique was briefed during the meeting about the monitoring framework, service delivery and steps taken for the convenience of patients.

Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department Azmat Mahmood Khan said that all possible steps will be taken for the further improvement of the health sector. Maximum facilities should be provided to patients in the empaneled hospitals. Instructions have been given to resolve the problems faced by patients in the empanaled hospitals on a priority basis.

Moreover, the 41st Syndicate meeting of the Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) approved the adoption of a central indication policy for MCPS. The meeting approved the curriculum of MS Spine Surgery Neurosurgery/Orthopedics Level 4.

The meeting approved the level of MD Preventive Pediatrics specialty. It also approved the upgrade from Level 3 to Level 4. It allowed the adoption of the SOPs formulated by the Higher Education Commission for the appointment of Professor Emeritus at Fatima Jinnah Medical University.

Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said that medical education is being promoted in Punjab’s medical schools. According to the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, efforts are being made to provide the best health facilities to the people.
