ISLAMABAD: Security in the federal capital was put on a high alert on Monday following a suicide attack on the Federal Constabulary (FC) Headquarters in Peshawar that left three FC personnel martyred. In the aftermath of the attack, law enforcement agencies set up new security pickets and intensified checking and started the monitoring of vehicles at all entry and exit points of Islamabad.

The city police also beefed up security at the Red Zone, which houses the Diplomatic Enclave, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, the Parliament House building, the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and other government offices, and the immediately adjacent areas.

The deployment of police personnel along the roads leading to the red zone and other parts of the city has been enhanced. Commandoes of Islamabad police, lady police, mobile patrolling, Anti Terrorists Squad (ATS), and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) were also deputed at different locations in the city.

At Faizabad and other bus terminals, authorities began verifying passengers’ identities, while transport operators were directed to provide passenger data to local police stations as part of strengthened security protocols.

They said that the city police also enhanced security at the markets and other public places. Police and other security agencies have been instructed to ensure high vigilance and carry out strict checking and effective patrolling to avert any possible terror attack.

The capital police team also conducted search operations in the jurisdiction of Industrial Area, Secretariat and Ramna police stations. In line with these directions of high-ups of police, search and combing operations are being carried out regularly across different parts of Islamabad, said a police official. In this regard, a search and combing operation was also conducted in the jurisdiction of Industrial Area, Secretariat and Ramna police stations under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police (SP) Industrial Area and SP Saddar.

During the operations, 418 individuals, 108 houses, 38 shops, seven hostels, 10 hotels, 34 vehicles and 101 motorcycles were checked, while 17 suspicious persons were also shifted to police stations for legal proceedings.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) operations Qazi Ali Raza emphasised that the primary objective of these operations is to tighten the security cordon around criminal elements and to further strengthen the overall security framework of the city.
