LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority, with the support of Punjab Police, has arrested Dr Khalid, Punjab’s biggest producer of fake milk and a long-wanted food criminal, during an operation conducted near Pakpattan.
The accused, a resident of Sahiwal, had been operating his illicit network within a five-kilometre security ring created by his associates to avoid law enforcement. He had been wanted for six years in six separate cases, said a spokesman of the Authority on Saturday.
Director General PFA Muhammad Asim Javaid said that in 2019 the accused opened fire on a PFA food safety team and injured an officer. Later, during court proceedings in 2024, he produced an unknown man in court pretending to be “Dr Khalid” in an attempt to mislead the judicial process. He said the accused was producing and supplying more than 50,000 litres of fake milk daily to Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Chakwal, Jhelum and several other cities of Punjab. He was arrested from a farmhouse located in area 71-D near Pakpattan.
The DG further stated that Dr Khalid used a lactoscan machine to test the mixture before preparing fake milk that closely resembled real milk. The counterfeit product was manufactured by mixing powder, water and vegetable ghee.
The DG expressed his gratitude to the Inspector General of Punjab Police for arresting the long-wanted food criminal, stating that the IG has done a great service to the people of Punjab by ensuring his capture. He said under the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab, all food criminals will be brought to justice. Strict legal action is being taken against those running the business of selling white chemical solutions in the name of milk.
