KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has said the body responsible for air safety in Pakistan is the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA), which regulates all airlines, including PIA, under the strictest international standards and procedures.
All matters concerning the use and replacement of parts, the fitness of aircraft for flight, and the routes, schedules, or changes thereto are under the direct purview of the Civil Aviation Authority and are executed only after seeking their approvals. This procedure is in strict compliance with international regulations, and it is based on this compliance, verified by countless audits.
Pakistan International Airlines in its statement further said that no PIA flight over the past two days was cancelled due to a strike by engineering staff and the cancellations that occurred were due to schedule rationalization, weather conditions, or other operational reasons.
The PIA management is acting with utmost patience and restraint, and so far, no administrative or retaliatory action has been taken against any engineer.
As the national airline, all our assets, routes, and revenue belong to the people of Pakistan. Protecting the reputation of the people and the institution is the foremost duty of us all, a duty which the management and competent staff are performing with great diligence, the statement said.
