ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has constituted special working groups to expedite development in new sectors and upgrade the existing ones in the federal capital.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, at the CDA Headquarters on Friday, where ongoing and planned infrastructure projects were reviewed in detail.

The meeting was attended by Member Administration and Estate Talat Mahmood, Member Finance Tahir Naeem, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch, and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, along with senior officers from the Engineering, Planning, Environment, and Estate wings.

During the briefing, the relevant officers informed Chairman Randhawa about the current pace of sectoral development and identified areas requiring urgent attention. To streamline the process, the CDA decided to form two separate working groups; one dedicated to accelerating ongoing development in new sectors and another to formulate a comprehensive plan for the restoration and modernization of old developed sectors.

The working group for old sectors will focus on infrastructure rehabilitation, horticulture and landscaping, and the introduction of modern civic facilities, ensuring that Islamabad’s older residential areas match the city’s expanding modern standards.

Officials briefed the Chairman that road infrastructure work (TST) in Sector C-14 is progressing rapidly, while horticulture and internal electrification on the sector’s service roads are also underway. Chairman Randhawa directed the concerned departments to accelerate work on street lighting, drainage, sewerage, and water supply systems, and to ensure that electricity supply work is completed at the earliest.

In Sector C-15, officers informed that earthwork for road infrastructure is underway and that sub-base work on around 17 roads has been completed. The work awards for the remaining projects have been finalized, and full completion of road infrastructure is targeted by March 2026.

Similarly, updates on Sector E-12 revealed that development activities are ongoing in Sub-sectors 2 and 3, while the tendering process for Sub-sector 4 is nearing completion. Regarding Sector I-12, officials informed that TST work is expected to be completed within this month, after which finishing work on roads and other civic infrastructure will follow.

Chairman Randhawa emphasized the need for on-site monitoring and directed officers concerned to ensure their regular presence in the field to track real-time progress.
