‘Pari’ banned in Pakistan over inappropriate use of Quranic verses

Anushka Sharma’s latest horror flick ‘Pari’ has been banned in Pakistan due to its objectionable content. Central Board of Film Censors Islamabad Chairman Mobashir Hasan confirmed the news just before its official release today.

Sources from CBFC confirmed that the Anushka Sharma starrer had been banned as it was against Islamic values. “The film not only mixed Quranic verses with Hindu chants but also portrayed Muslims in a negative light as they were shown using Quranic verses to do black magic,” local media reported.

“Pari flouts various sections of Code of Censorship for Films,” reads the statement sent by CBFC chairman to a local daily.

In a Facebook post late Thursday night, Nueplex cinemas announced that the movie is banned and will not be screened at the theaters.

Recently, India put a temporary ban on Pakistani artists for working in Indian cinema due to cross border tension. The entire issue of banning Pakistani artists began with filmmaker Karan Johar’s 2016 film ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’.
