KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 263,656 tonnes of cargo comprising 196,733 tonnes of import cargo and 66,923 tonnes of export cargo including 6,979 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday.

The total import cargos of 196,733 tonnes comprised of 93,642 tonnes of containerised cargo; 9,228 tonnes of bulk cargo; 5,364 tonnes of sugar; 23,594 tonnes of DAP; 30,556 tonnes of wheat; 4,907 tonnes of plam Kernel Expeller and 29,442 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 66,923 tonnes comprised of 38,021 tonnes of containerised cargo; 50 tonnes of bulk cargo; 12,542 tonnes of cement; 15,110 tonnes of clinkers and 1,200 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 6,979 containers comprising of 4,568 containers import and 2,411 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 988 of 20's and 1,751 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 39 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 393 of 20's and 271 of 40's loaded containers while 120 of 20's and 678 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were nine ships namely Xin Qing Dao, KMTC Mumbai, Northern Dexterit, MP The Belichick, Mandala, Pioneer Star, Unison Jasper, Malcolm and Pine Arrow carrying containers, oil tanker, cement, DAP and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were eight vessels viz. MP The Belichick, Diyala, Tamina, Cosco Hellas, Mandala, Al Mahboobah, Xing Hao Hai and Liberty Promise carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical, clinkers and vehicle respectively currently at the berths.

There are three ships namely Argo-B, Jag Amisha and Liberty Promise carrying DAP, mogas and vehicle respectively expected to sail on Monday while two ships namely Diyala and Stove Tide carrying containers and cement respectively are expected to sail on Tuesday.

There are two vessels viz. CMA CGM Racine and Golden Brilliant carrying containers and chemical respectively due to arrive on Monday while six vessels viz. Botany Bay, Barbra, Edison, Charlotte Schulte, MT Shalamar and Pan Crocus carrying containers, oil tanker and clinkers respectively are expected to arrive on Tuesday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 226,413 tonnes comprising 205,532 tonnes of import cargo and 20,881 tonnes of export cargo including 1,657 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Monday.

The total import cargo of 205,532 tonnes includes 66,936 tonnes of coal; 59,299 tonnes of LNG; 14,000 tonnes of chemical; 26,000 tonnes of gas oil; 12,000 tonnes of palm oil; 10,496 tonnes of soyabean; 2,713 tonnes of sugar; 2,175 tonnes of palm kernel; 2,311 tonnes of LPG and 10,602 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 20,881 tonnes includes 20,881 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 1,657 containers comprising of 558 containers import and 1,099 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.

There was one ship namely Al Saad carrying gas oil sailed out to sea on Monday morning, while three ships namely Diva, Gas Athena and Ocean Moritz carrying coal, LPG and gas oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of twelve ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, coal, sugar, soyabean, chemical, LPG, LNG, gas oil, mogas and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as nine vessels viz. Tiger Summer, Zita Schulte, Golden Denise, African Bari Bird, TR Lady, ST Memphis, Chirso Pigi Lady, Southern Wolf and GL Star carrying chemical, cement, wheat, gas oil and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were six ships viz. MSC Mila, Northern Javelin, Lias, Dubai Golactic, Glory Harvest and Chirso Pigi Lady carrying containers, coal, LPG and gas oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, SSGC LPG Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Monday.

There were three ships namely MSC Mila, Northern Javelin and Lias carrying containers due to arrive on Monday while two ships namely Maersk Detroit and X-Press Guernsey carrying containers due to arrive on Tuesday.
