Any Indian citizen can now buy land in IIOJK, Ladakh

  • The order comes into force with immediate effect.
Published October 27, 2020

India has now allowed any of its citizen to purchase non-agricultural land in illegally occupied-Kashmir and Ladakh

In a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday, the order will be called the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Adaptation of Central Laws) Third Order, 2020.

The notification said that Indian citizens do not require a domicile or permanent resident certificate to purchase a non-agricultural land in IoK. However, agricultural land can only be purchased by agriculturalists or people engaged in farm-related activities.

The order comes into force with immediate effect. According to Kashmir Media Service (KMS), Pahalgam Club has already been given to a non-Kashmiri citizen Tapash Bagat. Indian government has issued the notification to change the Muslim majority status of IIoJK and is violating international laws through brutal acts at a time when people are facing double lockdown, political analysts told KMS

Last year in August, the Indian government abrogated Article 370 from its constitution and bifurcated the autonomous state into two union territories. It also issued new domicile rules in which a person who has resided in the valley for 15 years will only be able to call the occupied territory his or her place of domicile.
