Soldier martyred in firing along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border

A soldier was martyred on Wednesday after terrorists from across the Afghan border opened fire on a Pakistan Army post of security forces in Bajaur tribal district.

In a tweet, Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar said due to the firing, Havaldar Tanveer embraced martyrdom while one soldier was injured.

Bajaur has witnessed various such attacks in the past in which both security personnel and civilians have been martyred and injured. In September, Sepoy Sabir Shah, 24, was martyred after militants from across the border opened fire.

In July, three Pakistani citizens were martyred, while seven including two soldiers sustained injuries in cross-border firing from inside Afghanistan in Bajaur.

Pakistan has been consistently raising the issue for border management on the other side to avoid the use of Afghanistan soil against Pakistan, a press release by the ISPR said.
