Around seventy political parties have failed to submit their consolidated statement of accounts before Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) which is mandatory under the Constitution to contest election.
Sources from Election Commission disclosed that August 29, 2011, was declared by ECP as last date for submission of statement of accounts. The requests were sent to all the political parties in the country. Despite sending reminders to them, only 40 political parties out of 168 so far submitted their consolidated statement of accounts till August 27.
According to the website of ECP, the submission of accounts is mandatory‚ in light of Article 13 of the Political Parties Order 2002. The Article states: Every political party has to submit a statement of accounts within 60 days from the closure of each financial year. It has been learnt that the parties which could not meet the deadline will be considered ineligible to take part in the coming general elections.
