Sadqa-e-Fitr fixed at Rs 80

Published August 27, 2011 Updated August 27, 2011 12:00am

The minimum amount of Sadqa-e-Fitr to be paid before Eid-ul-Fitr has been fixed at Rs 80 this year, President, Tanzeem-ul-Madaris Ahl-e-Sunnat Pakistan and Chairman, Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman said on Friday. According to the market price of 2.25 kilograms flour, the amount for fitra this year has been calculated at Rs 80, he told APP.
He said those who want to pay equal to prices of barley (Jow), Khajoor and Kishmish should pay Rs 200, Rs 1,280 and Rs 1,600, respectively. Mufti Muneeb also advised the people to pay the amount to the poor before Eid-ul-Fitr so that those who are deprived could also arrange to celebrate the festival.
The most deserving people for Sadqa-e-Fitr are close relatives followed by neighbours and the poor. It is incumbent on every Muslim who possesses enough basic foodstuffs to feed himself and his family for the duration of one day and one night. A Muslim must pay Sadqa-e-Fitr on behalf of himself, his wife, children and any dependents.
