Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmavati’ starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor finally got a clearance from the Censor Board with 26 suggested cuts and the title name change to ‘Padmavat’.

After creating a number of controversies ‘Padmavati’ became one of Bollywood’s most talked about movie of all times. The movie initially got in trouble after the Rajput community claimed that the movie portrays a love connection between the Hindu Queen Padmavati and the Muslim Emperor Khilji played by Deepika and Ranveer, respectively.

Other fringe groups like Krni Sena also gave death and mass suicide threats to the movie makers and especially Deepika, the leading actress of the movie.

"The film was approached with balanced view keeping in mind both the filmmakers and society. Considering complexities and concerns around the film the requirement for a special panel was felt by CBFC to add perspective to the final decision," Bollywood Life quoted an official of the censor board.

The film was reviewed by a special panel constituted by the CBFC, which included historians after the makers of the film stated that it was partially based on historical facts.

"Special panel consisted of Arvind Singh from Udaipur, Dr Chandramani Singh and Professor KK Singh of Jaipur University. Panel member had insights and also some reservations regarding claimed historical events and socio-cultural aspects which were duly discussed at length," the board official added.

The Censor Board is expected to give the movie a U/A certificate after the asked modification and the release date will also be announced post the editions.
