Punjab government has asked the doctors working in government hospitals to adopt decent behaviour towards the patients as well as their attendants and treat them as guests. Sources told Business Recorder that necessary directions in this regard have been issued to the management of different public sector hospitals as well as doctors working there.
"Government wants change in the mindset to give positive message to the patients as well as their attendants approaching different hospitals," the sources said. They added "Government is spending huge amount on free treatment in government hospitals but still complaints of rude behaviour of doctors and other staff are pouring in."
The provincial government has also asked the management of government hospitals to adopt zero tolerance policy in matters of cleanliness, the sources said. It has been directed that the patients and their attendants should be treated as guests and courteous attitude must be adopted towards them.
Secretary Health Punjab, Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, while chairing a review meeting to evaluate the performance of DHQ, THQ hospitals; Rural Health Centres and Basic Health Units of district Sialkot, directed the officers of health department to play a proactive role in the early completion of ongoing development schemes. He expressed satisfaction on the overall performance of the hospitals and urged the officers to maintain this spirit and work hard with dedication for further betterment. He directed the officers to personally supervise the construction work and ensure quality of material to be used in the process.
Earlier, EDO Health Dr Talat Hussain briefed the participants of the meeting regarding the performance of the hospital and pace of work on development schemes. It was informed that Rural Health Centre, Sambrial has been upgraded to the status of THQ Hospital while rupees 49.612 million have been spent on that project and the hospital is functional. Furthermore, construction of wards in Civil Hospital Daska has also been completed at a cost of Rs 130.492 million however; installation of some medical equipment is yet to be made.
The EDO also said that Rs 18 million have been released by the government for establishment of ICU at Government Allama Iqbal Memorial Hospital, Sialkot. Also, RHC Kotli Loharan is being upgraded to a 40-bed THQ Hospital. The development work would be completed at a cost of Rs 58.899 million. Additional Secretaries, Director General Health, EDO Health Sialkot, Medial Superintendents of the concerned hospitals attended the meeting.
