Mahira Khan speaks out against sexual abuse

Celebrities across the world have been raising their voice against sexual harassment after Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein’s case gained steam. Pakistani actress Mahira Khan has also raised her concern over the issue.

She said, “What’s interesting is that it had been going on for years. And it was a well-kept secret. But it took one brave woman to speak out and slowly and steadily it took over. Because a lot of women started speaking up about being harassed and men have done it to them, it looks like the movement is against men in general. But that’s not it. If we make it a one-sided argument, what we all are fighting for will become weak,” local media reported.

Mahira Khan finally speaks up on her and Ranbir’s controversy

Actress Priyanka Chopra also slammed Weinstein and spoke about women empowerment at the ‘2017 Marie Claire Power Trip’ earlier this week. “I don't think there is only a Harvey Weinstein in Hollywood. I think there will be a lot more stories that will come up. That happens not just in India, but all over the world. It's the power of men trying to take away the power of women. It's about feeling powerful and macho,” she said.

Vidya Balan, who is known for her women-centric roles, said, “You know it is quite shocking to see that Harvey Weinstein has been an abuser for so many years and no one spoke about it till the NY Times piece broke… He is one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood, someone whose work we’ve all admired but to think that even the most powerful female actors chose to keep silent on the matter for decades is a reflection of how women, however successful they maybe, don’t feel safe addressing sexual harassment”. .

It has been two weeks since The New York Times published a report detailing three decades of sexual misconduct and abuse by Harvey Weinstein. That piece centered on eight women who spoke up about his behavior, and later settled with Weinstein out of court. Five days later, a second report presents revelations from 13 more women who shared stories of harassment, assault, and rape. Since then, #MeToo campaign gain momentum across the world.
