 KARACHI: Removal of encroachments raised on 1.4 km long stretch, falling in the jurisdiction of district east, will help expedite the completion of Lyari Expressway by October this year, Governor of Sindh, Muhammad Zubair said here on Monday.

Talking to journalists following his meeting with the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) team, he said encroachment had emerged as a major hurdle in timely completion of the much warranted project.

Sindh Governor alongwith the FWO team also visited the Lyari Expressway site and specifically reviewed the under construction Southern part of the scheme.

He was informed on the occasion that the encroachments on the phase, that later were removed with the support of district central and district west administration, will help expedite completion of the expressway.

Later in his interaction with local journalists, he said Lyari Expressway once fully opened for regular traffic flow will help end the issue of traffic congestion and frequent jams.

"This will be so as commuters and drivers would be provided with alternative routes connecting different parts of the metropolis with one another," he said.

"The citizens will also benefit as their expenses incurred on fuel and time consumption would be markedly curtailed," the Sindh Governor said.

Muhammad Zubair said Green Line project, Lyari Expressway and M-9 are part of government efforts to provide comfortable and convenient transportation facilities.

"This is the right of the people of Karachi and Prime Minister fully cognizant of it is about to announce a full fledged development package for the metropolis," he said.

Federal government, he said is working with equal vision of development for the entire country and FWO alongwith National Highway Authority (NHA) are utilizing their expertise in timely and efficient completion of these projects.

In reply to a question, he said Sindh and federal governments are partners in K-4 and Lyari Expressway projects.

Sindh Governor said development in Karachi is development of Pakistan as the metropolis is the economic hub of country and its performance reflects upon performance of the entire country.
