A diversified business enterprise, Engro's business lines include Chemical Fertilisers, Chlor-vinyls, a bulk Liquid Chemical Terminal, Industrial Automation, Power Generation and Foods. The vision of the company is "To be the premier Pakistani enterprise with a global reach, passionately pursuing value creation for all stakeholders'.
With this vision in mind the company's total capital expenditure until 2010 is planned at Rs 100 billion, which is demonstrative of our commitment and faith in Pakistan's economic potential. Furthermore, the robust strides made in the growth endeavours of all our business platforms, is heartening progress towards realisation of this vision.
Alongside this growth, however, the Company is cognisant of the fact that it must link performance and responsibility in a way that business functions in harmony with environmental and social goals.
Engro's emerging responsible business approach is the foundation of a sustainable strategy. Our dedication to the triple bottom-line is well-illustrated by our commitment to maintain social investments around 1% of pre-tax profits; as well as our efforts in recent years, to engage with stakeholders through a nation-wide series of independently facilitated internal and external dialogue sessions. Engro's Corporate Responsibility Reports reflect this dialogue, reporting in line with the United Nation Global Compact's (UNGC) GRI-recommended format.
As of 2006, our environmental footprint is being tracked in real time showing a steady decrease in greenhouse gas emissions. Our social investments covering the areas of Education, Health and Infrastructure now exhibit increasing preference for more object-oriented, long-term partnerships, with tighter documentation and verification.
Coinciding with Engro's present growth cycle, our emerging social responsibility vision goes beyond mere legal compliance or philanthropy, to actively address issues that concern us as a corporate citizen.
We therefore, reconfirm our commitment to a maturing philosophy of Fostering Sustainable Growth, in a period of rapid diversification; whilst evolving strategies that create lasting value for Engro, as well as our stakeholders.
