Arconic, a materials science, engineering and Design Company has just unveiled its plan for a 3-mile-high skyscraper built from futuristic material that would essentially include smog-eating surfaces and balconies that retract.

The tower that we speak of, is part of one of the companys campaign codename The Jetsons, which serves as an homage to the 1962 cartoon envisioned in the future. Engineers at Arconics worked in collaboration with some futurists to imagine innovative new technological breakthroughs that would come in use now and for the decades to come.

One of Arconics chief materials scientists, Sherri McCleary told foreign media about one of their exciting new projects EcoClean, which is essentially a special coating on a building that helps it self-clean itself and purifying its surrounding air.

It was first released in 2011 offering a number of benefits over traditional pane glass windows.

McCleary says, "The functional coating provides aesthetics, it provides maintenance benefits, and it also provides a benefit to the surrounding environment by reducing the content of pollutants around it."

EcoClean works with help from light and water vapour, which mix with the chemicals in the coating to produce atoms known as free radicals.

These free radicals pull in pollutants from the air and break them down to get bog off the side of the building along with dirt and grime quite akin to shedding off dead skin.

Ergo, the result is a cleaner building surrounded by cleaner air.

Some of Arconics other futuristic designs include flying cars, ultra-lightweight car bodies, and aerodynamic airplane wings.
