French capital in a bid to curb atmospheric pollution has made all of their public transportation free. Amidst controversial traffic control measures, the city faces the worst of winter pollution in 10 years.
Many Parisians were seen wearing masks due to the high amount of pollution in the breathable air and city hall officials have banned half of all cars from being used and have also made public transport free for the third consecutive day. A similar approach will be applied in the French city of Lyon on Friday.
Vehicles with even-numbered plates only are allowed to be driven on Thursday in Paris and its close suburbs. To add in to the prevention of atmospheric worsening, Pariss Velib bike-share and Autolib electric cars will be free again and as well as the Paris Metro and bus services.
The organization in charge of monitoring pollution said the peak is due to the accumulation of pollutants because of anticyclonic conditions.
