The first intellectual property rights conference opened here Monday with delegates from different regions participating in the two-day deliberations.
The Intellectual Property Organisation Pakistan (IPOP) has organised the roundtable discussions on 'Integrated Management of Intellectual Property' in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the European Union (EU).
The agenda includes intellectual property enforcement technology transfer, organisational structures, financial autonomy and stability, administration of IP rights, better delivery of services through IT use, building databases and dealing with emerging issues.
Senior officials of the WIPO and Intellectual Property Organisation of European Union as well as delegations from Singapore, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand and Afghanistan are participating.
About 70 local experts from relevant ministries and departments, business and industry, associations, legal community, universities and research institutions are also attending.
The purpose of the event is to share experiences and exchange proposals, IPOP expert Muhammad Anwer Khan told. A summary on the roundtable discussions will be sent to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, he added.
On the basis of the recommendations, the IPOP will be able to better equip and organise itself for fulfilling its mandate to promote IP rights awareness and improve enforcement, training and administration.
