Pakistan Peoples Party (Sherpao) has won majority seats in the local government elections in the NWFP and anticipates to form district governments at a number of places. Party's provincial President Pervez Khattak and General Secretary Sikander Khan Sherpao stated this at a joint press conference here on Sunday.
Presenting a list of the winning candidates, they said that their party had won 20 percent seats of the total successful representatives, which was much higher than the previous elections and has made the party "walk with the head on high."
They expressed the confidence that the people would elect PPP nominees in a large number in the coming general elections too. Pervez Khattak while dilating on the process of LG elections, said this victory was against all odds created by the provincial government and added that the PPP candidates could get through owing to the confidence reposed by the general public in the party.
He said the provincial government was active throughout the elections process and announced developmental projects at various places, which was a blatant violation of the code of conduct.
On the contrary, the NWFP government was out to blame the federal government of violating the election conduct.
He said that all the tall claims by the provincial government of being champion of Islamic rule and democracy, proved false. "People of the province are politically mature enough to recognise between the good and the bad. Moreover, these people (MMA) are exposed before them," he said.
Sikander Khan Sherpao blasted the claims of various political parties of their majority in the local government elections and said all these claims were not more than hollow slogans whereas his party had won formidable majority in all the 12 districts where LB elections were held.
He presented a list of winning PPP Nazim and Naib Nazim candidates showing their names. PPP is the first political party of the province that has presented the names of its winning candidates.
He said his party had won 73 nazims and naib nazims seats while they would enter into alliances with other political parties, keeping in view the requirements and situation of the districts in consultation with party workers for the formation of district governments.
He thanked the general masses of the province for their confidence reposed in their party and said similar spirit would be demonstrated by them in the LB polls in the remaining 12 districts of the province.
