Special attention is being given to provide latest telecommunication facilities in Ghangche and Skardu districts of Baltistan, and a comprehensive plan is being implemented. The Baltistan Special Communication Organisation (SCO) Commanding Officer Colonel Naeem while briefing the journalists in Skardu disclosed this.
He said the telephone exchanges at Skardu and Khaplu were expanded, and telephone exchanges at Gwari, Mehdiabad, Keris, Damboodas and Shiger were expanded to provide more telephone connections in those far flung areas of the country. Each exchange, he said would have 500 lines.
Colonel Naeem further said channels of telephones from Skardu to Khaplu have been enhanced for easy access to Khaplu. Baltistan SCO chief said a PCO was being installed in Hushey village of Ghangche district to facilitate the people of that remote area as well as international tourists in the heart of Mashabroom Peak.
Colonel Naeem said Fibre Optic cables were being laid from Skardu to Mehdiabad and Youchung Ghangche district and mobile telephone connections would be given during next six to eight months in Skardu and Gamba areas. GSM Mobile System would work within the radius of 35 to 40 km. He said in order to provide better service of telecommunication local engineers and technicians were inducted in SCO.
SCO Commanding Officer said billing system would be made easy for the people of Baltistan.
