Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) would set up a fashion design institute in Karachi on the pattern of Lahore Institute while the planning was already at advance stage in this regard.
This was stated by the vice-chairman EPB, Zafar Mahmood while speaking at the conclusion of the three-day fashion forecast workshop organised in collaboration with CBI of Holland here.
He said that the construction of fashion design institute in Lahore was already underway having the affiliation with world's leading designing institute including Paris fashion design school, he added. Lahore institute would award degrees in fashion designing.
He urged fashion design schools in Karachi to form a council of fashion designing in metropolis to create one voice for raising their demands and issues.
He said that Export Promotion Bureau could send designers and design teachers on the recommendation of this council to foreign exhibitions and fairs to learn new concepts, techniques and trends in world fashion.
Vice chairman Export Promotion Bureau was of the view that value of Pakistani textile exports could not be enhanced without value addition which would come through fashion designing. "You have to create those textile products which appeal your buyers in Europe and other parts of the world", he added.
CBI consultant Hans Hunink in his remarks said
that the Pakistani designers and teachers had spirit and
hunger for learning and possessed fabulous talent and rich cultural heritage.
"They have the base and they need extra help to brush up their skills in fashion forecast and designing to develop local textile industry" he observed.
Hans said that this combination would prove to be very effective in producing quality design and unique products for European markets.
