The man called Shahid Afridi is probably the most enigmatic cricketers to have donned the green shirt, the man is either crazily loved by his fans or abhorred by some for his gung-go attitude towards the game.
However, none can forget his contributions towards Pakistan cricket, being the main force behind the Pakistan’s winning campaign in ICC T20 World Cup 2009. He is finally getting a much deserved farewell along with fellow off-spinner Saeed Ajmal from the national team for their services to the game.
“I will meet both players next week and we [board] will ensure that the duo is given a glorious farewell,” Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Executive Committee Chairman Najam Sethi said while talking to the local media.
Saeed Ajmal, who last represented Pakistan in 2015, was one of country’s most skillful off-spinner, considered prodigy of maestro Saqlain Mushtaq, but cannot carry on with the former flair after changing his bowling action.
However, he was the highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded National T20 Cup with 20 wickets, which was won by Karachi Blues.
The move by the board comes after some earlier reports suggesting that Afridi might not get the farewell international cap he wanted, on the grounds that some of PCB’s top officials were upset with Afridi over his past comments on retirement plans.
