Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) is looking for a strong and strategic relationship with the vendor industry of the country. This was stated by PSEB managing director, Dr Aamir Matin while speaking at the inaugural session of a conference on 'Linux and Open Source Adoption in Pakistan', jointly organised by PSEB and IBM Pakistan here on Saturday.
Dr Aamir said the PESB foresees a growth of 40 percent in country's information technology sector in coming fiscal year. He termed the out-going fiscal year as excellent period for the IT industry in which the domestic sector grew by 55 percent.
The PSEB chief was of the view that the IT business had never been as good as it was in fiscal 2004-05.
"Our strategy is to attain further growth in this very sector," he added.
Dr Aamir said that a shortage of space was felt as more and more IT companies are entering the field, adding the government is also providing support to the domestic industry.
Earlier, in his welcome address, IBM country manager Humayun Bashir said that this is a decade of Linux. He also emphasised the need for a linkage between the industry and the academia.
'Open Source' is a global information technology phenomenon that brings the benefits of using and developing cutting edge software technology to stakeholders.
At the same time 'Open Source Software' frees economically deprived entities from the burden of resorting to piracy for their genuine software needs.
