Nine Mujahideen, including a wanted commander, two civilians and an Indian soldier were killed in the latest clashes in occupied Kashmir, police said on Friday. (Occupation) troops shot dead Mohamed Yusuf, a district commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen group, in central Budgam overnight during a clash, police said. Over 12,000 people, who chanted "we want freedom" and "long live Hizbul," attended the funeral prayers of the slain commander, witnesses said. Eight other Mujahideen were killed in two clashes in the southern district of Doda overnight, a police spokesman said.
He said five were gunned down by police at a remote village which appeared to be a freedom fighters training camp.
A police officer said it took police two days to reach the village of Sui Patyala on foot to launch the operation.
"A large quantity of arms and ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site," the officer said.
Separately, Indian occupation troops overnight gunned down three Mujahideen in Doda early Thursday, police said.
"The eight slain belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen and hard-line Lashkar-e-Taiba groups," the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, two civilians, including a school student and an occupation soldier died in two clashes on Friday between Indian troops and Mujahideen in the districts of Kupwara and Anantnag, police said.
