France, which has lobbied hard to get Frenchman Pascal Lamy elected the next head of the WTO, is "very satisfied" that the former EU trade commissioner has been chosen to take the top job at the global trade body, Finance Minister Thierry Breton said Saturday. "I am very happy today and France is very satisfied to see that Pascal Lamy came out on top" in the process to choose a new head for the World Trade Organisation, the French minister told journalists. "We can only be happy given the efforts France has made over the past few months to try to convince all of the countries who vote (for the head of the WTO) on the quality of his candidature," he said after a meeting here with his EU counterparts.
Lamy, is set to replace Supachai Panitchpakdi of Thailand and become the new WTO head after a selection team recommended him for the post and the rival candidate bowed out of the race.
