People from all walks of life have largely condemned the increase in POL prices and termed it a failure of the government in handling the country's economic situation. They were of the view that government is misguiding people by fake economic indicators while actual situation of country is worsening day in an day out.
"People were left on mercy of Petroleum Advisory Committee and its office bearers are at liberty to play havoc with the lives of general public", said Amjid Ali Khan, Secretary General Trader Cell of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
He said that during last five years 100 percent increase was seen in the prices of petroleum products that means government is squeezing blood of poor citizens to show high economic indicators.
More than 100 increases in POL prices is negating the tall claims of the government having stable economy, Khan said adding government should declare that it has miserably failed in running affairs.
Shabir Bangash, Secretary General of United Transporters Association termed the increase in POL prices as salt rubbing on wounds of poor people. "Government has bent upon eradication of poor in spite of poverty", he said.
People, he said are blaming transporters for increase in fairs. "We have no other option to raise fairs, but we are keeping the public interest supreme". He said that increase in POL prices is disturbing the whole structure, as it is main reason of rise in prices of essential commodities.
Abid Ali, a private sector low paid employee in an emotional manner said that increase in POL prices has snatched purchasing capacity from poor. "It has become difficult for salaried class to maintain relation of body and soul", he said.
He said that President General Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and their cabinet would never know what is happening to poor people. "They are getting all luxuries from the taxes we are paying and without paying any single penny they are enjoying all perks and privileges. How they can imagine the impacts of inflation", he maintained.
Gul Tabassum, female school teachers said that her kitchen expenses have increased manifold as a result of the inflation. She said that people are being forced to starvation which would leave no option for poor than to commit suicide.
