National Tea Institute produces 4.5 tons green tea

imageISLAMABAD: National Tea and High Value Research Institute (NTHRI), working to promote cultivation of tea in the country, has produced and processed 4.5 tons green tea during last two years.

The institute in Mansehra has established tea garden on 34 acres and 50 acres at farmers field.

Official sources at National Food Security and Research Division on Tuesday said efforts were also being made to acquire new tea germplasm from Sri Lanka, Kenya and Turkey.

Regarding development projects underway for promotion of tea in the country, the sources said there were Participatory Development of Tea Value Chain around Mansehra Area under Agriculture Linkage Programme (ALP) and Mechanization of tea production and promotion of green tea to improve profitability under Research for Agriculture Development Programme (RADP).
