ISLAMABAD: Central Secretary Information PPP Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that the incumbent government has added about 3200MW electricity to national grid while some new power projects will be launched shortly.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, he said PML-N governments of 90s did not add even a single unit of electricity to national grid, and due to this, the nation is now facing shortage of electricity.
Replying to a question about RPPs(Rental Power Producers), he said RPPs are short term arrangement to cover immediate shortfall of electricity.
He acknowledged the fact that the cost of RPPs' electricity is high but the government had no other option except RPPs to tackle energy crisis as all other power generation projects take about five years to generate electricity.
