The government is likely to give relief to the industrial sector in power tariff in the industrial policy which being given finishing touches before announcement, it is learnt.
The industrial policy would also enfold several other concessions for the industry such as supply of gas at concessional rates for 12 months a year, special package for industrial zones and special industrial projects such as garments cities and reduction in duty and taxes.
Secretary Industries and Production Javed Ashraf Hussain told Business Recorder that the government would announce several concessions for the industrial sector to make it competitive in the local and international markets. He refrained from going into further details.
He said: "I would not go into more details such as nature and quantum of relief since these could be made public after formal approval of the competent authority. The Secretary said the homework for the policy was nearing completion.
A decisive meeting is on the cards to give second thoughts to the draft prepared by the ministry of Industries and Production. Secretary Javed Ashraf Hussain would chair the meeting.
