The Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) has approved 181 project proposals for Sialkot Export Processing Zone requiring capital investment of $138 million for annual exports of $216 million.
Sources told Business Recorder on Saturday here that these projects would create employment opportunities for 17,000 persons.
The EPZA approved these projects within 24 hours after submission of applications by applicants.
The functioning of Sialkot Export Processing Zone has opened a new era of industrial development and would help transfer of new industrial technology as well as create wide job opportunities for the skilled and semi-skilled persons, sources added.
They said that the provincial government is considering to establish more export processing zones in the province.
The proposed zones would be set up at Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sargodha, and Gujrat.
The step is being taken for further accelerating the pace of export and economic activities in the country, sources added.
