Four persons lost their lives and eight others were injured when a three-storey residential building collapsed in area 36-B, Landhi, here on Sunday night, police sources said on Monday.
The deceased were identified as four-year old Ehtesham, son of Irfan, 40-year old Aziz, son of Wazir, seven-year old Rameez, son of Aziz and 40-year old Raunaq Jehan, daughter of Bannay Mian.
The injured were Shoaib (13) son of Aziz, Habib Khan (60) son of Kalay Khan, Zeeshan (3) son of Irfan, Zohaib (6) son of Aziz, Raees (29), Sajid (35), Rasheed (30) and Anjum (40).
The building, at plot No 1262, was owned by R A Nabi. The dead and injured were residing in two houses No 1261 and 1263 which bore the brunt of the collapsed building, located in between the two houses.
However, no occupant of the collapsed building at No 1262, Gali No 5 was reported to have suffered, sources said.
The building's construction was stated to be poor, with use of substandard material and not in accordance with standard parameters, sources said quoting neighbours who claimed to have been warning the owner not to continue extension of the structure due to its risky condition.
Procedural formalities were underway to book a case against the collapsed building's owner.
Removal of debris was underway. Area police was unable to provide details of the incident since it occurred on Sunday, saying that its officers were pursuing the matter.
Edhi Welfare Trust sources said on Monday that its ambulances shifted three dead and five injured to hospitals.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan expressed grief over the loss of lives and injuries caused by the building collapse.
In a statement on Sunday he ordered an enquiry into the incident and said due compensation would be paid to the heirs of the deceased.
He also ordered satisfactory treatment and medical care to the injured.
