The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has posted Muhammad Arif Asim, a BS-21 officer of Income Tax Group, as Member Exports with immediate effect.
In this regard, CBR has issued a notification here on Thursday.
Asim, a seasoned tax official, would deal with the export-related issues including Duty and Tax Remission for Export (DTRE) Rules, duty drawback regime, temporary importation of raw materials/inputs used in the goods to be exported and interaction with the export associations.
The seat was vacant for the last many months as after transfer of Mumtaz Haider Rizvi to National Tariff Commission (NTC), the whole burden was shifted to the Member Customs Ramzan Bhatti and Chief DDS/DTRE Iftikhar Qutab.
It is expected that the office of CBR Member Export will once again start speedy processing of pending duty drawback claims filed by the exporters and increase number of exporters under the DTRE scheme.
Sources said that the authorities have taken a very precise decision because budget exercise has been started in CBR and issues/proposals relating to exports will exclusively be dealt by the office of Member Exports.
