KARACHI: The Ombudsman Office on Thursday urged K-Electric to avoid over-billing and load-shedding in Ramzan.
This was stressed by Adviser to Federal Ombudsman's Regional Office, Muhammad Yameen, during the hearing of complaints at the Deputy Commissioner Malir's Camp Office.
The complaints were submitted by the residents of Landhi, Korangi, Malir and Shah Faisal Colony against over-billing by K-Electric, said a press release issued here.
General Manager K-Electric Maroof Solangi, Coordinator K-Electric Landhi Riyaz Ahmed, Coordinator Korangi Ehtasham-ul-Haq, Coordinator of Malir Aqeel Muhammad and Manager Shah Faisal Colony Mujeeb-ur-Rehman and PRO Federal Ombudsman’s Regional Office Behleem Builqees Jan were also present.
An applicant, Naseer Ahmed, told the Federal Ombudsman's adviser that K-Electric workers do not catch power thieves and excessive amount's bill is sent to those who honestly pay. He said he had received a bill of Rs. 74,000. He requested Ombudsman's office that the K-Electric officials should be advised to check the load and send a correct bill.
Another applicant, Ehtesham-ul-Haq, said that he had been facing over-billing for the past one year. Upon which Ombudsman court issued the order to revise the bill.
An applicant, Naeemullah Qureshi, said that his salary is only Rs. 12,000, and there is even no washing machine in his home, and despite this he was sent excess bill and he was unable to pay it.
The advisor to Federal Ombudsman ordered that bill be paid in instalments by eradicating over-billing.
When applicant Faizan Ali made a complaint about over-billing, a K-Electric representative replied that the bill is correct upon which Faizan Ali requested Ombudsman court to order a survey and eradicate over-billing. Muhammad Yameen issued the order for a survey.
Hearing the applications of Syed Ghayas Uddin and Tehzeeb Abbas, the Ombudsman's adviser observed that these applications are time barred.
He asked them to directly contact the office and they by themselves will solve this problem.
