Under the Decentralised Education Project (DEP) launched at a cost of Rs 5,880 million, 1,200 primary schools would be upgraded to middle-level within nine years, said Sindh Education Minister Irfanullah Marwat on Saturday.
Speaking to officers during a meeting of DEP at his office, he said the improvement was visible in educational institutions due to revolutionary policies adopted by President General Pervez Musharraf for the education sector.
"On President's directives the development projects have been initiated in education department, which will be completed on time, and will benefit the Sindh a lot, particularly with regard to achieving the literacy rate target," he added.
The minister said the books under the new curriculum were being published for the next academic session. For this purpose, good quality paper has been bought to improve the quality of books, he informed the meeting.
He said the chairman of the Sindh Text Book Board, had been directed to complete the work for books on time as no slackness would be tolerated in this respect.
The education minister will himself visit the STBB next week to check the authenticity of reports given by the chairman STBB, and inspect the work on publishing of books.
