Shanghai copper traded its three percent limit up on Thursday after London Metal Exchange (LME) copper hit 7-1/2 year highs on Wednesday, traders said.
Almost all Shanghai futures hit limit-up, with the most active August futures traded 710 yuan higher at 26,440 yuan ($3,194) a tonne.
Benchmark three-month LME copper closed at $2,614 a tonne on Wednesday its highest close since mid-1996 after a speech by US Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan was taken as bullish for commodities, traders said.
The metal had closed on Tuesday at $2,565 a tonne. After on Wednesday's kerb close, LME three-month copper jumped to $2,634/2,637 a tonne in inter-office trading.
The metal rose again in Asian trade on Thursday to reach $2,639/2,644 a tonne.
