Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has called upon Pakistani writers, intellectuals and journalists to play their due role for an enduring peace in South Asia as well as solution of regional disputes.
He was talking to a delegation of senior journalists of South Asian Free Media Association at Chief Minister's House, here on Sunday.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that as a result of the efforts of President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister, Zafarullah Khan Jamali, the negotiations between India and Pakistan for resolving all issues including Kashmir problem would yield positive results for the people of both the countries.
He said that better relations between India and Pakistan would open up new avenues of trade and tourism between the two countries.
He said that the Punjab government is fully geared up to provide necessary infrastructure to meet the future requirements of trade and tourism.
He said that in this regard all-out encouragement would be extended to the investors willing to construct international standard hotels in the provincial metropolis.
He said that Lahore is an important cultural center of Punjab and, therefore, revolutionary measures are being taken for conservation and revival of its cultural heritage for attracting foreign tourists.
The Chief Minister said that steps would also be taken for co-operation with East Punjab in Agriculture Research and other sectors and benefiting from each other's experiences in the field of agriculture.
Earlier, Imtiaz Alam on behalf of South Asian Free Media Association apprised the Chief Minister of activities of the Association.
He said that a delegation of Pakistani journalists, intellectuals, traders, agriculturists and investors would soon visit India under the auspices of the Association.
