The United States would like to see an expansion of the Nato-led international peacekeeping force in Afghanistan but without reducing the number of US-led coalition troops here, a visiting Congresswoman said Saturday.
Speaking after talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Democrat Nancy Pelosi said that her country supported the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) patrolling Kabul to boost security in war-weary Afghanistan.
"We would like to participate on our own but also through Nato and any participation we do through Nato is not in any way a diminution of our interest in Afghanistan but just another way for us to participate in a multilateral way," Pelosi told a press conference at the presidential palace in Kabul.
