Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi, while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the new Punjabi language newspaper 'Khabrain' from here on Saturday said that it was for the first time in the history of the province that concrete and effective steps were taken, at official level, for the promotion of Punjabi language and culture.
The chief minister said that "respect of our mutual borders is essential" and pointed out that there were some countries in the world which have common language and culture and are following the path of mutual co-operation and progress, while remaining within their own country.
Applauding Chief Editor Zia Shahid for his efforts in bringing out a Punjabi language paper, he said that Punjab Government would provide patronage to Punjabi language newspapers and journals being published in the province.
