Top most priority of Pakistan Railways (PR) was to provide better facilities to its passengers and a number of steps have been taken to make railway journey easy and facility oriented.
This was said by Aurangzeb Khan, General Manager, Pakistan Railways while talking to PTV.
All the big stations were provided the facility of hospitals and First Aid boxes were available in every train to effectively cope with emergency, he added.
Ticketing system was being computerised in an organised manner, this facility has already been initiated in Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Peshawar, he added.
He appealed people to co-operate with railway authorities in guarding railway property. Hundred percent passengers were preferring new Chinese lower AC coaches, Passengers were paying more owing to better facilities and services provision in new coaches.
He said that Pakistan Railways has started eight more trains to eliminate the menace of overcrowding from trains.
First time in 56 years, PR has introduced the facility of direct service for the people of Karachi, Kasur, Pakpatan, Lodhran section, the GM said.
The annual consumption of fuel of PR was 160 million liters. Slight increase in the price of high-speed diesel makes a lot of difference in the budget of Pakistan Railways, he added.
Mohammad Ashfaq Khattak, Divisional Superintendent, Pakistan Railways Rawalpindi, said 25 kilometre track between Rawalpindi and Lahore was reconstructed to lessen transit time of journey.
