Punjab Chief Minister's Advisor on Law and Human Rights Rana Ijaz Khan has said that five new residential colonies for industrial workers in various cities of the province, including Lahore, would be constructed.
This was stated by him while talking to a delegation of industrial workers in his office on Tuesday.
Addressing the meeting, the advisor said, "provision of housing facilities to the labour community is one of the top priorities of the present government, which is reflected by the decision to construct new housing colonies.
Lahore, Kasur, Dandut, Warburton and Mian Chunnu are the selected cities where new development projects would be completed at a total cost of Rs 864.00 million.
While giving the details of the projects, the advisor said, "a 47-acre labour colony consisting of five-marla houses is being constructed at Lahore at a cost of Rs 388.544 million."
The location of the colony would be 1.25 kilometre from Bhobatian Chowk towards Mohalanwal on Defence road, he informed the delegates.
Similarly, a single-storey housing scheme for industrial workers would also be completed at Mian Chunnu covering an area of 10 acres near Darbar Mian Chunnu.
The project would cost Rs 71.00 million. Another 27-acre labour colony at a cost of Rs 180.00 million would be constructed at Warburton, which would be located at Feroz Wattowan road, Nankana, he added.
He further informed that two new labour colonies have also been approved for Kasur and Dandut costing Rs 180.00 million and Rs 125.00 million respectively.
The Kasur Colony would be consisting of 25.063 acres area at Kasur-Khem-Karan road, near Chowk Darbar Abdul Khaliq, while the Dandut labour colony would be constructed at Khewra-Dandut road, near railway station covering 42.63 acres area, the advisor added.
