As many as 9,791 people were killed in 2003 in various incidents including domestic disputes as well as terrorist attacks while murder attempts left some 12,163 victims injured, mutilating and severing their body limbs in most cases, according to a report prepared by the interior ministry.
The report also mentioned two terrorist assaults mounted on the life of President General Pervez Musharraf during the last year.
Some 523,226 cases of theft were registered in various police stations across the country in which citizens were robbed of the jewellery worth over 7 billion rupees.
The recovery of only 9 percent plundered assets leaves lot to be desired on the part of the police.
It also stated that some 8,914 incidents of kidnapping for ransom occurred which shows that crime ratio has increased as compared to the 2002.
Some 66,859 innocent people have been slaughtered from 1980 to December 31, 2003, according to the report of Pakistan Crime Reporters Association.
Incidents including murder attacks, murder attempts, smuggling, swindling, drug trafficking, car lifting dacoity maintained an upward trend.
The report suggested the government that it should create jobs for large segment of qualified but jobless youth in a bid to curb violence and crime ratio.
