imageQuality of education has been constantly depleting in our beloved Pakistan, and it is no secret that this has become a serious obstacle in the country’s development, social, economical etc.

Our higher education system especially is constantly criticized for producing quantity over quality, as per a report by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British education ranking agency Pakistan has been ranked of having the weakest higher education system in the world.

In its ranking that compared 50 countries, Pakistan was unfortunately placed right at the bottom 50th, with a score of 9.2. Whereas, US and UK enjoyed the best higher education system in the world with scores of 100 and 98.5 respectively.

imageOur next door neighbor India fared much better on the list with 24th position and a score of 60.9. Even countries such as Saudi Arabia and UAE were ranked above Pakistan with 36th and 48th position, respectively.

The ranking measured each country’s high school education system across four dimensions: system strength, access, flagship institution, and economic context. Combining university rankings and other indicators gives governments and policy makers a national benchmarking tool to measure progress.

Ranking at the bottom should be a source of grave concern for the government and public alike.
