imageISLAMABAD: National Assembly Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development on Wednesday directed FIA to accelerate the pace of investigation on FIRs registered against the accused in Employees Old Age Benefit Institution (EOBI) scam.

The committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Mir Aamer Ali Khan Magsi, MNA.

Standing Committee while discussing the EOBI scam directed the Employees Old Age Benefit Institution to actively pursue the court cases for early realization of the money miss-appropriated on account of purchase of property on exorbitant rates.

The Chairman EOBI while apprising the committee informed that former management of EOBI purchased real estate in different parts of the country at exorbitant rates in connivance with the sellers.

It was further apprised that the issue was before the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Attorney General for Pakistan would present himself before the Court with the request for early hearing of the case.

Chairman EOBI informed that most of the accused were under arrest whereas few of them were granted bail either on statuary or medical grounds.

It was brought into the notice of the committee that FIRs had not yet been registered against sellers of four properties.

The committee expressed its displeasure on the issue and directed EOBI management to take up the registration of FIRs with FIA against those persons.

The committee also directed the Ministry and EOBI to keep it posted about the progress of the case.

Later, the committee referred The Factories (Amendment) Bill, 2016 moved by Ms. Asiya Naaz Tanoli, MNA to Ministry of Interior for its input since the jurisdiction on labour matters to the extent of Islamabad Capital Territory with the Ministry of Interior.

The meeting was attended by Pir Saddaruddin Shah Rashdi, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Department MNAs; Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, Ch. Abid Raza, Chaudhry Muhammad Munir Azhar, Syed Sajid Mehdi, Mian Najeebuddin Awaisi, Malik Muhammad Uzair Khan, Ms. Musarat Rafique Mahesar, Ms Shagufta Jumani, Ms. Suraiya Jatoi, Sheikh Salahuddin, Mrs. Aliya Kamran, Ms. Aisha, Secretary, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Department and other senior officers of the concerned departments.
