imageKARACHI: Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination, Saira Afzal Tarar has said that there was a dire need of collective efforts to be taken by each stakeholder to make Pakistan prosperous and pushing the country forward.

He expressed these views while addressing at the 2nd Pakistan Pharma Summit organized by Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers' Association (PPMA) here on Tuesday.

"We can not compare our economy with other economies because those are not facing same challenges as we are and we are fighting war (against terrorism) here", she asserted.

Every one has to play its important role to steer Pakistan forward and the government was playing its due role, what it is supposed to do but change takes some time, State Minister said.

We have brought an improvement in Drug Regulatory Authority (DRA) to make it more efficient and effective to deliver better services to the masses, she added.

As many as Rs.145 millions has been approved for upgrading World Health Organization (WHO) pre-qualified quality laboratory and other improvements, she said.

The maternal Health is provincial subject and now it is not federal subject, she said while replying to the question of rise in deaths per 1000 births.

Our population is growing so rapidly and it is big challenge for us, she said adding there is a need to make some changes in infrastructure of institutions like PIA.

Replying to another question, she said that the government was working as it should be and after 5-year tenure of government, let the people decide who they would elect to in the next elections.

It is collective responsibility of every citizen to make Pakistan stronger and prosperous, she said urging PPMA to come forward and play its due role in serving the people in the country.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) DRA, Muhammad Aslam said that it had already taken up all issues including setting up Quality Laboratory which were discussed by members of PPMA.

"RDA would complete the registration of all pending cases by October 2016", he said.

We have received 3700 applications of registration and of total, 3200 requests have been finalized while the rest would be completed by October of current year, he added.

Member of PPMA and Managing Director Getz Pharma, Khalid Mahmood said that the spending of government on Education and Health was very low when compared with other countries.

He urged the government to increase budget allocation on Education and Health from 0.8 per cent of GDP to 2 per cent of GDP and 0.5 per cent to 3 per cent of GDP.
