At least 160 people have been killed after sweltering heatwave wreak havoc in the Eastern and Southern India.
According to NewsTalk, schools in the regions have been closed and will remain closed until April 26th, as temperatures rises to 45C and above.
The Indian states of Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are the primary target of the ongoing heatwave, where the majority of deaths in relation to the heatwave have occurred.
Officials in Andhra Pradesh were giving out free water and buttermilk in order to help people stay hydrated.
Across the country, people have been urged to stay indoors during the hottest hours of the day, as temperatures are on average between 8 and 10 degrees higher than is normally recorded at this time of the year.
According to News18, India’s mean temperature has increased 0.6C over the last 110 years, reflecting the rising temperatures across the earth. The India Meteorological Department has warned eight states to prepare for heat-wave conditions.
