imageBoard of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) dropped Harsha Bhogle as the commentator for the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

According to Indian Express, Bhogle was dropped from the commentary panel at the last moment without any explanation.

The decision regarding the selection of commentators, according to a report published in the Indian Express is taken by the BCCI after considering certain factors

Bhogle told The Sunday Express that he wasn’t aware about the reasons. “No one told me anything. I have not been formally told of the reason even now. All I have been told is ‘it is a BCCI management decision’,” said Bhogle, a respected voice in world cricket with 3.66 million Twitter followers.

Though, Sony Network holds IPL’s telecast rights, it is the BCCI that controls the tournament’s production. BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur and IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla refused to comment on Bhogle’s sudden ouster.

A controversy erupted during the recently concluded ICC World Twenty20, when during the India-Bangladesh match, Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, who was quite active on social-media during the tournament, took to Twitter to say, "With all due respects, it would be really worthy of an Indian commentator to speak more about our players than others all the time."

With the termination, this will now be the first season of IPL to not feature Harsha Bhogle – one of the best Indian cricket commentators whose association with Indian cricket goes back to the mid-80s and who has been describing IPL action since the 2008 opening season.

Bhogle’s regular commentary teammates, namely Danny Morrison, Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri have maintained their IPL jobs. However, a clear reason for Bhogle’s contract termination still remains unknown.
