SYDNEY: Sydney FC full back Alex Gersbach is set to move to a European club, reportedly in Norway's football league Tippeligaen, his club said Sunday.
Gersbach, 18, is due to fly to Europe on Monday where he will undergo a medical the following day before signing for the unnamed club.
"Alex is a very ambitious young man and I would like to thank him for his service to Sydney FC," Sky Blues coach Graham Arnold said in a statement.
"It is always pleasing to be able to bring through a young player, develop him and see him get a chance in Europe.
"We would have loved to have kept him for another year but it's a great opportunity for him and I wish him the very best for the future."
The Sydney Morning Herald said the defender, whose contract with Sydney FC was due to finish in June after two years at the club, would be moving to Tippeligaen without naming the club.
Sydney FC did not disclose the transfer fee.
