imageISLAMABAD: Carrying a number of health benefits and nutritional values, oranges are steadily becoming high in demand these days when winter is getting to its peak.

Explaining benefits, nutrionist Dr Abid Hussain said "Sweet, juicy oranges make a delicious and healthy snack or addition to a meal."

He said "A whole orange contains only about 85 calories and has no fat, cholesterol or sodium. Of course, oranges are well known for their vitamin C content."

He said "Oranges may boost immune system and improve pigmentation on the skin, they also aid heart health, cholesterol levels and other issues. Oranges may additionally help reduce the risk of respiratory diseases, certain cancers, rheumatoid arthritis, ulcers and kidney stones."

He said "Orange juice is also packed with nutrients but does not contain the fiber of a whole orange. Orange pith, the white substance between the peel and the flesh, is high in fibre. Furthermore, it is easy to consume more calories when drinking orange juice than when eating an orange."

Khayyam Khan, a resident of Sector G-7 said "I frequently buy oranges at local market near my home, since my children want to have oranges every day".

He said "I know the nutritional value so I eat it after every meal ."
