Govt spends Rs9 billion on power projects
LAHORE: The Punjab government will undertake projects in energy sector at a cost of Rs9 billion during the current fiscal year.
"Power generating projects of 500 MW, will be executed with public-private partnership," officials sources told APP on Wednesday.
At present Pakistan is facing electricity shortage and the people have to experience load-shedding, sources said, adding that the completion of power projects would minimise intensity of power outages providing relief to people besides helping industrial wheel to move.
They pointed out that Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif had already signed power generating project of 120 MW with China at Taunsa Sharif.
In order to lessen repercussions on agriculture, tube wells running on solar energy are being installed across the province. In this regard Rs1.36 billion is being allocated.
This amount will be provided from Annual Development Programme, the sources said.
